Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

I had no knowledge of Bowen Therapy until I read the book Stop Parkin Start Livin. The Therapy was recommended by the author who suffers like myself with Parkinson's. Prior to starting Bowen I used to have remedial massage fortnightly but started to find that my body was struggling with the after effects.. Since having Bowen treatment I am relaxed and my muscles are more flexible. Judith, my therapist is marvellous, she spends time talking to me at the beginning of every session, is calming and varies the therapy to remedy the varying symptoms Parkinson's throws at me. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?):

I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2006. At that point, I had no idea what Parkinson's was or what effects it had. At first I was dumbstruck then after the initial shock, all sorts of questions went through my head, was it hereditary, was it contagious, was it life threatening etc, etc. At the time of diagnosis, I felt alright within myself, what is there to worry about! But as time went on, you start to notice things, such as, my hand writing went from being a good, neat hand to virtually a scribble (which is the reason I went to the doctor's in the first place). My posture wasn't right, walking didn't feel right, I began to shuffle, I began to freeze. Turning over in bed was a chore in itself. Getting out of bed to stand up, I felt as though I had run a marathon! During the last 12 months, tremors started in both arms and neck. Getting to sleep is a problem in finding the right spot for your head on the pillow. A number of months ago I was sent a copy of a news letter from our local Parkinson's disease group, in it was an organised 'Pamper day'. So I thought I would give it a go. Amongst other things going on, there where a couple of therapists offering Indian head massage etc. One of them (Marie Hurst), specialised in something called 'Bowen'. I took her details and away I went. It wasn't until a few months later; I came across her details again, so I read up on the internet what the benefits of Bowen was. So I decided to give it a go. Initially I didn't notice any improvement. I did feel different though. Perhaps I was expecting too much and a miracle cure! I do find that after each session I sleep very well and feel very relaxed. I have also noticed that while I am on the 'table' my arms don't tremor! At the start of a recent visit, I mentioned my neck problem. In addition, Marie did a few things relating to my neck which she hadn't done to me previously. I can tell you hand on heart; it gave me some respite in relieving the stiffness and tremor considerably. It is not a cure! It does come back again, but hopefully with continual visits, I can enjoy the respite it brings albeit temporary, and a decent night's sleep! How would I describe Bowen therapy? Acupuncture without needles! I find it very relaxing. Is it a miracle cure for Parkinson's sufferers? No. Does it help to give some respite? Yes, it can and does. It may not suit everyone, but it's definitely worth a try. My wife who also has Bowen therapy, used to suffer a lot from stress related headaches, not now! She also had an operation a year or two ago for carpal tunnel syndrome. She started to have problems with aching in her wrist. Since having Bowen therapy, it has relieved the aching to such an extent, that it's almost gone.
