Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?): I am a fourteen year old girl currently being trained as a concert pianist, playing mature complicated pieces far beyond my years. At the age of ten I changed teacher to pursue and enhance my musical ability and after a few months under a new practice regime, began to suffer from a sharp pain in my left hand little finger. The symptoms deteriorated with the feeling of my little finger collapsing when playing a particular passage, and practice in general was painful. I then began to be branded as having weak hands and fingers and was constantly ordered to 'rest' my hands, which inevitably held back my progress. I had never suffered from this before and it looked like my musical career could be over before it really had begun. My mum sought professional advice to make sure that the bones in my hands were not being damaged in any way by my piano playing and thankfully all was well, but the treatment given to me by the physiotherapist did not cure my problem. My mum then heard of Bowen therapy and I went along for my first session. I was twelve years old by this time and the session revealed that I was extremely tense, particularly in my back and shoulders. When Bowen movements were done on my arms and hands I had pins and needles in many of my fingers and my Bowen therapist, Mrs Hamer, was fantastic, explaining why it was happening. I continued my sessions on a weekly basis and slowly but surely the pins and needles feeling in my hands disappeared and I no longer have any pain in my fingers. Two years later I still attend for my monthly top-up sessions and my own body also tells me when these are needed. I have learned to relax a lot more and find that these sessions benefit my posture as well. I would never go without my Bowen therapy it is an important part of my life. I did not have weak hands or fingers, my body was simply reacting to the constant and repetitive strain that was being put on it, plus my bones are still growing. Furthermore I know Bowen works for me. Only recently when I had a very important concert date due, I felt my little finger 'lock' during a piano lesson and I was left with a throbbing, aching hand. It was only a few days before the event and I was very worried. Mrs Hamer saw me for an emergency treatment and sure enough the pain disappeared and my concert was a great success and pain free. Without Bowen I believe that I would not have been able to continue training to be a concert pianist, having fallen by the wayside due to my hand injuries. I often wonder how many people have given up on their dream due to being wrongly stigmatised and the inability to obtain correct treatment for their problem. Bowen is fantastic and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Reference:

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?): I approached Austin to seek treatment for RSI and shoulder problems, which I have suffered from for many years. Austin's approach using the Bowen Technique not only relieved the discomfort and pain I have suffered over the years, but has also corrected other aches and pains in what I believed were totally unrelated parts of the body. All of this was achieved with a limited number of treatments (which are far gentler than other alternatives), and a series of exercises to be completed at home. I would wholly recommend both the Bowen Technique, and Austin as a leading practitioner. Reference:

Testimonial of your Bowen Therapy experience (how have you benefitted?): As a person with Type 1 diabetes, I am unfortunately prone to getting frozen shoulders, which are painful, and very incapacitating. When I injured my right shoulder last year, it rapidly developed into the fully frozen stage, with pain at night which interfered with sleep, as well as making it impossible for me to use a computer or carry bags. Having seen a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in shoulders with a previous episode, I knew that the average recovery time would be at least 18 months, unless I could find a complementary treatment which would speed up the recovery process. I have been very impressed with a course of Bowen treatments, supplemented by exercises to perform at home, which resulted in enough mobility within four months to enable me to drive a left hand drive car on an extended road trip, as well as giving me sufficient movement to perform all the activities I would normally do as part of my working day. Bowen has also been helpful to me in posture adjustment and helped with a repetitive strain injury, caused by typing whilst my shoulder was still frozen. I think patients new to Bowen will also be pleased with a practitioner's commitment to only offer sessions at the frequency with which they are really required, and only if they are causing improvement.
