CPD Requirements

This section applies to Full Members (or those wishing to become Full Members).

Full Members Renewing Membership

There is a repeating 4-year cycle which will commence on your renewal date.

4 year cycle commencing on your renewal date During this 4 year period you will need to accrue: a minimum of 14 hours of BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen training. PLUS a minimum of 20 hours of any other relevant training/activity - this can include 'other' CPD activities (contained in the list below) or BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen training. (Therefore, by the end of the 4 year cycle you should have evidence of 34 hours of training, a minimum of which must be 14 hours BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen training.) Evidence will need to be submitted by you by the end of the 4th year of each CPD cycle. You can upload course certificates and activity evidence (e.g. personal notes summarising a topic you have researched) using the 'ADD NEW CPD RECORD' online form whenever you complete a CPD activity. This tracks all your CPD hours and provides you with a summary of the training you have completed and the remaining hours you need to complete.
4 year cycle then repeats The 4 year cycle repeats exactly as above. Any additional ‘Bowen CPD’ hours can be carried over to the next 4-year cycle, if you have met the current cycle CPD requirement and have accrued additional hours, provided that they were completed within the 6-month period prior to the start of your next CPD cycle. Members are not required to send CPD evidence to the office until the end of a 4-year cycle, unless specifically asked to do so, but you will save time if you log your CPD activities as you complete them. The Membership Secretary may request your CPD evidence for any CPD cycle at any time. If you have not completed sufficient CPD activities by the end of a 4-year CPD cycle, you may not be allowed to renew your Full membership.

Newly Qualified Therapists Joining as a Full Member

This applies to you if you qualified within the last 12 months: Initially, on joining, you do not need to have completed any additional CPD training, but for the first 3 years after gaining a Bowen Therapy qualification, you must complete at least 14 hours BTPA accepted hands-on Bowen training per year. Your first 4-year CPD cycle (see above) commences 3 years after joining the BTPA.

Other Therapists Joining as a Full Member

Qualified between 1–2 years ago? We need to see evidence of 14 hours BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen CPD training undertaken in the last 12 months in order to join BTPA. For the first 2 years of BTPA membership, you will need to complete 14 hours BTPA accepted ‘hands-on’ Bowen CPD training per year. The 4-year CPD cycle (see above) commences 2 years after you join BTPA.

Qualified between 2–3 years ago? We need to see evidence of 14 hours BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen CPD training undertaken in the last 12 months in order to join BTPA. For the first year of BTPA membership, you will need to complete 14 hours BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen CPD training over that year. Your 4 year CPD cycle (see above) commences 1 year after joining BTPA.

Qualified over 3 years ago? We need to see evidence of 14 hours BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen CPD training undertaken in the last 12 months in order to join BTPA. Your 4 year CPD cycle (see above) commences on the date you join BTPA.

Full Members Leaving and Rejoining

This rule applies to:

Full Members who leave BTPA or downgrade to Associate Member but then rejoin at a later date.
Full Members who are removed from membership for non-renewal and then renew at a later date.

If rejoining BTPA within a 4-year CPD cycle, the intervening period between leaving and re-joining will be incorporated into the CPD cycle. Evidence of relevant CPD will be required as per the 4-year CPD cycle above.

If rejoining BTPA after a 4-year CPD cycle has completed, the previous 4 years will count as the 4-year CPD cycle and evidence of relevant CPD will be required as per the 4-year CPD cycle above.

What constitutes BTPA accepted 'hands-on' CPD training?

BTPA accepted 'hands-on' Bowen training is listed on the BTPA website. These are workshops and courses where the training school or trainer has submitted their courses to us for approval, and they meet the BTPA standards and any relevant National Occupational Standards. This ensures that practitioners can rely on the standard of teaching.

What constitutes 'Other' CPD training

'Other' CPD comprises training that related to running your practice or enhancing your knowledge but is not necessarily Bowen specific.

Description	Maximum number of hours claimable over 4 year CPD cycle
Attendance at seminars, workshops and lectures that enhance your knowledge or skills relating to your therapy practice. This might be certified training such as Counselling, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, First Aid, Health & Safety training, Ergonomics, Anatomy & Physiology, or another Soft Tissue or Manual Therapy. Upload your attendance or qualification certificate(s) when logging your CPD online.	20 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Attendance at Bowen specific conferences or meetings which are dedicated to learning more about Bowen. Write up a summary about what you have learned during the meeting/conference.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Personal study such as a formal programme which is taught in person or online. You will need to be able to explain what you have learned and how you will put it into practice.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Hands-on Practical Revision with other Bowen therapists. You will need to keep a record of who was present and what practical revision was involved. You may be asked to explain how the hands-on revision has benefitted your clinical practice.	3 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Reading articles in journals, books or online which provide learning that you can put into practice. Summarise your learning (hand written notes or in an electronic document) that can be uploaded when logging your CPD online.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Research, where you are participating in a piece of research which enhances your understanding of Bowen, including Bowen organised studies. Upload an abstract or the full research paper when logging your CPD online.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Writing articles about Bowen which are published. Providing articles for 'In Touch' or the BTPA newsletter. Upload your article (if not already published in 'In Touch') when logging your CPD online.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Client satisfaction surveys or evaluations which you carry out about your work. This can include collecting testimonials from your clients. This CPD activity requires you to reflect on the client feedback and you must write up how this reflection has modified your practice. Do not include any administration time involved.	3 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Giving or receiving supervision which supports your learning and development. Can be individual or in a group such as a RIG. You may be asked to explain how the supervision has benefitted your clinical practice.	3 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Giving or receiving mentoring which supports your professional development such as a study buddy, sharing Bowen sessions as a learning experience, meeting with other Bowen therapists to share best practice, RIG meetings. You may be asked to explain how this mentoring has benefitted your clinical practice.	3 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Work shadowing - where you work alongside another therapist to enhance knowledge and skills. Keep notes about what was learned and how this has enhanced your practice.	3 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
Involvement in professional association activity including committee work. Attendance at BTPA general meetings, non-Bowen conferences, giving Bowen taster sessions, demonstrations, manning the stand at events or exhibitions. You should document what activities you undertook and how they are relevant to your professional practice.	6 hours max. (over 4 year CPD cycle)
